Purpose Disorientation and Nobel Prize
From Biojustice
It is not black and white
Nobel prize is not all that bad when we consider many other prizes (that often given by some kind of authorities including totalitarians. I am sure Hitler gave away many prizes and medals).
Nobel's purpose of Nobel prize?
However, Nobel's purpose of giving the prizes started off as a good example of purpose disorientation. As as result, it spawns more purpose disorientation, unfortunately.
It could have worked well, but I it did not.
Pros and cons not denied
Many things humans do have some pros and cons. I am sure Nobel inspired some people and contributed to the world in some ways.
The philosophy of science and the philosophy of prize
However, the underlying philosophy of giving such prizes for scientists (very few) is not so scientific let alone so many follow-up issues and disputes when some researchers were selected and deselected.
Science works as a network.
As people become to realize more and more, the whole science machinery or system works as an tightly woven networks. If one has to give a Nobel prize for any scientific work, the laureatte should be to the whole network.
